April 13th meeting synopsis

It's about rejuvenating the film industry, above the escarpment, on our own terms, with our own voices.

The idea became three-fold:

1.  Training - a series of training opportunities (say 5 workshops on various topics)

2.  Projects - make 5 shorts, using the same actors for all pieces.  Use 5 writers to create scripts that will not require multiple locations and can be written for the editor.  5 directors, one crew of lighting, camera, sound, options for post, formats.. etc.  Maybe a theme to tie the 5 together.

3.  Simultaneously, individual projects can be developed and producers will have crews to call on when these become ready to shoot... market... etc.

The Collaborators, a loose collective of creative western Manitobans interested and/or involved in the multi media (film/video) production industry. They were known for developing the 30-Below Film Festival in 2000 and are calling for writers, sound artists, visual artists, lighting people, theatre types, actors and anyone interested in the business of film/video to meet to discuss the new project.

At the first meeting we went around the room and introduced ourselves, a couple of musicians, a couple of writers, a few actors, one or two planners, one or two marketers.

Next meeting April 13.  We hope to always hold the meetings on the 13th of the month, no matter what the day - but that will change.

Film/Video/Multi-media production is expensive and intensive and a money-spending collaborative activity requiring planning.  We must demand industrial development funds to leave the flat city and come to our part of the planet so our voice can be heard, world-wide and folks will see that we have our own culture up here, above the escarpment.
